It's been a truly inspiring experience, and worry not, you haven't seen the last of me...

Day 30
"The Beginning"

JUNE 30, 2011

Weather: Super Sunny, 79°
Mood: Joyful

Inspiration: The question I pondered all day: what do I create for my very last day? My friend Lee Ann put the pressure on me when she said, "You have to go out with a bang!" This got my creative juices flowing. If I needed to go out with a bang, what better way than "The Big Bang"? It's pretty cool, right? Ending with the begining?

Day 29 "Tree Spirits"
JUNE 29, 2011

Weather: Sunny, 70 °
Mood: Cabin-feverish

Inspiration: Today's artmaking was a struggle. After 29 days, I'll be the first to admit that I'm feeling a little spent. Thankfully, today's piece is inspired by nature. Too often, I feel like I waste beautiful days indoors because I'm too busy toiling away inside. After staring at the beautiful day unfolding outside of my window today, I called my sister and asked if she and her family would go on a bike ride with me.

Day 28 "Best Friend"
JUNE 28, 2011

Weather: Partly Cloudy, 73°
Mood: Semi-OCD

Inspiration: It's simple, it's a little cliche, but I've been making them since I was a kid - friendship bracelets. Today's piece was made for my very best friend - my husband. For me art swings one of two ways, sometimes it all about the concept/message and other times it has more to do with colors and patterns. Making friendship bracelets apeals to my visual OCD. I'm the type of person that will stare at wallpaper and tile until I figure out where the pattern repeats.

Day 27 "The Cat Burglar"
JUNE 27, 2011

Weather: Partly Cloudy, 79°
Mood: Sly

Inspiration: Folks who know me well know that I'm cat lover. I admire their confidence and independence. I am often mesmorized by the grace and agility of big cats, particularly lions. When I watch documentaries their beauty literally will take my breath away. Pictured in this piece is my soul-mate cat Nya (named after the cat burglar in Mission Impossible II). I call her that because she prefers me above all others. I've never had a pet like that. Since she was a kitten if I wander out of sight she'll call to me with a particular meow to find out where I am.

Day 26 "Joplin"
JUNE 26, 2011

Weather: Sunny, 73°
Mood: Awed

Inspiration: I am so very proud of my niece and my sister. This past week they were in Joplin, Missouri helping people try to put their lives and homes back together. On May 22, 2011 the town was hit with a category 5 tornado. My sister said it looked like a war zone. This image was drawn from a photograph taken there. Pictured is my niece Brittiany resting amongst the rubble.

Day 25 "Hometown"
JUNE 25, 2011

Weather: Partly Cloudy, 77°
Mood: Thankful

Inspiration: It's easy to take the beauty of my hometown for granted. I've grown up seeing 1000 foot freighters, so they've begun to all look the same. It's when I take a vacation elsewhere I begin to notice my affinity for Port Huron's natural beauty. I find myself looking to the horizon trying to find where their water begins. Being land-locked freaks me out. I'd rather swim in the lake than any pool or ocean anywhere. Today's entry is an ode the beautiful blue waters of my amazing hometown.

Day 24 "Peace"
JUNE 24, 2011

Weather: Mostly Cloudy, 68°
Mood: Frazzled

Inspiration: Today's entry is more of a color study than anything. Life has been pretty crazy the last week and I feel that I'm in dire need of some simple soothing peace.

Dancer - Jody Parmann

Day 23 "Dancer"
JUNE 23, 2011

Weather: Rainy & Fickle
Mood: Charmed

Inspiration: I think that in a previous life I was a dancer. If not, I hope to be in my next. Since I was a young'un, I've had a facination with dance, and have accumulated quite a collection of dancing movies. Think Flash Dance, Dirty Dancing, Save the Last Dance, etc. I could watch them over and over! Tonight's feature was Center Stage. Ballerinas are poetry in motion, in my opinion.

Day 22 "Adventure"
JUNE 22, 2011

Weather: Sloppy Rainy, 68°
Mood: Damp

Inspiration: When I was a little girl, I loved to play in the woods. Every day was a new adventure. The neighborhood kids and I would make forts out of tires, palettes, and occassionally garbage-picked furniture items thrown out by our parents. My favorite was when the ferns where a couple of feet high. It was easy to hide in them for whatever imaginary adventure we had going on that day. As an adult, I still see the possiblity of adventures in the forest.

Day 21 "Eye Doodle"
JUNE 21, 2011

Weather: Intense Thunder Storms , 75°
Mood: Chill

Inspiration: Thunder, lightning, torrential rain, and three hours later Sadaat and I arrived at Lake of the Pines campground in Clare, MI. We're celebrating the birthday of a friend of ours, but upon arrival I find out there is no internet. The nerve! Don't they know one needs internet to camp properly?...just kidding, though it has delayed me posting this piece. My night consisted of delicious beef barley soup, Woodchuck cider, and a drink mixed by our friend that we dubbed "Date Rape" for obvious reasons. With most of my day spent packing and traveling, today's entry is a doodle I like to do - an eye.

Day 20 "Daenerys"
JUNE 20, 2011

Weather: A Mix of Sun & Clouds, 77°
Mood: Faniciful

Inspiration: When I was little I used to like to draw the characters from my books. This practice lead to me creating characters of my own. It was magical to me because I believed on some plain of existence my characters lived. I often wished they'd come to life in my world, but alas that never happened. I was watching the TV series "Game of Thrones" and a protagonist hatched some baby dragons and the idea took me back, so here's a little dragon I hatched. I call her "Daenerys" after the character from "Game of Thrones".

Day 19 "Envy"
JUNE 19, 2011

Weather: Partly Cloudy , 77°
Mood: Envious

Inspiration: I've had a VERY busy day. It's almost 8:00 a.m. June 20th and I haven't slept yet. There's a good chance I won't get to sleep till later on this evening. It's the weirdest thing, when I see someone sleeping, like on TV, I instantly feel tired and envy them. It's like seeing someone yawn and involutarily feeling the need to yawn yourself.

Day 18 "Paint Pants"
JUNE 18, 2011

Weather: Sunny & Beautiful, 77°
Mood: Messy

Inspiration: I can get pretty messy when I'm in the zone. Crazy-color paint pants are a product of my frenzied creative process. Occasionally I wear them out (I have no shame) and more than one person has tried to buy them off of me...not in the dirty way (well, that happened once). Paint pants are so popular that I've had folks ask me to manufacture some for them. Earlier I was working at my part-time job (American Eagle), and you will never believe what they were selling... paint pants! They weren't nearly as cool as mine, though.

Love Heart - Jody Parmann

Day 17 "Love"
JUNE 17, 2011

Weather: Mostly Sunny, 75°
Mood: Loving

Inspiration: This 6x6" mini painting is based on one word - the word "Love". I once did a whole series of word art where I solicited words from friends and family. I ended up doing over 150 paintings! Tonight I was out w/friends dancing, drinking and being merry. In this atmosphere and frame of mind I tend to be a happy person that "loves" her friend and her life.

Day 16 "Harem II"
JUNE 16, 2011

Weather: Sunny w/Thunder Showers, 70°
Mood: Happy

Inspiration: Today was an education in international shipping options. That's right I sold my first piece to a buyer over seas! He's an old school mate that's moved on to bigger and better things abroad. Today's drawing was inspired by the 8 panel painting I sold him called "Harem". P.S. If you're looking to ship something internationally, DO NOT go w/FedEx - they were ridiculously expensive!

Bioshock Little Sister - Jody Parmann

Day 15 "Little Sister"
JUNE 15, 2011

Weather: Sunny, 73°
Mood: Entertained

Inspiration: (Fellow gamer geeks will recognize this one.) "Little Sister" is a character from an awesome X-Box game called Bioshock. Tonight I went out with my husband and somes friends to a birthday party at a restaurant/bar/arcade called Dave & Buster's. After all that gaming, I was in the perfect mood to tackle this piece. The plan is to submit her to the Game Informer Magazine Art Contest. If they publish her, they'll hook me up with a free game!

Day 14 "Sparkly Bits"
JUNE 14, 2011

Weather: Sunny 52°
Mood: Curious

Inspiration: There's a good chance that I married my husband for the beautiful culture that he comes from. Not really, but I do love the beautiful party wear I get to don at family events. There is nothing in American culture that comes close to Bengali sarees in elegance. They are bright, colorful, and adorned with all sorts of sparkly bits. I genuinely feel like a princess when I wear one! I was telling my brother-in-law today how I'd like to visit Bangladesh sometime in the near future and experience the fashion firsthand. Today's piece is a little bling inspired by Bengali culture.

Day 13 "Paralyzed"
JUNE 13, 2011

Weather: Sunny, 68°
Mood: Paralyzed

Inspiration: About 10 years ago I dated a guy who took it upon himself to recover our computer and ended up accidentally deleting years of my personal photographs. I was beyond sick over it. The smartest guy I know is working on the malfunctioning hard drive that has on it all of my personal photos, but I'm paralyzed with fear waiting...

Day 12 "Gone"
JUNE 12, 2011

Weather: Cloudy 67°
Mood: Worried

Inspiration: About a year ago I purchased a device meant to protect my data. Today I found out that the equipment has malfunctioned and that I may have lost years and years of personal photos. I won't lie, I'm beyond devastated at the thought and this somewhat simplistic piece is all I could bring myself to do. It looks a little bit like color photos going down a toilet don't you think?

Baby Hat - Jody Parmann

Day 11 "Cuddly Hippie Hat"
JUNE 11, 2011

Weather: Some Sunshine w/Clouds, 66°
Mood: Tired

Inspiration: Tonight's little gem is a baby hat (modeled by my Schweetheart Monkey). I imagine, someday if/when I have children, I’ll torture them with goofy looking creations such as these. I was inspired by the realization that as an artist one of my favorite things to do is experiment with mixing different colors and/or textures in the various mediums I use. I don't know if it's just me (I may be a bit of a weirdo), but I get a little thrill when I put my brush in a different color paint or start a different color yarn.

Medium: Crocheted Homespun Yarn

This particular one is NFS, but if you are interested, newborn sizes start at $35. E-mail me.

Day 10 "Strange & Sweet"
JUNE 10, 2011

Weather: Cloudy 76°
Mood: Thoughtful

Inspiration: At first glance this piece might seem a bit racy, but I assure you the inspiration behind it is completely innocent if not still a little strange. In the wee hours of the morning a friend who had responsibly decided to stay over because she'd been drinking, crashed on my futon. Now, I live in a one bedroom apartment and it just so happen my 16 year old niece was staying over also, so she, my husband and I tucked ourselves into my queen size bed. Laying there I realized that though the circumstances were strange I was charmed by the fact that I was sandwiched between two of the people I love most in this world. It was sweet. Now you may ask, "Where are their clothes?" Well let me assure you we three had PJs on, it's just I think the human body is a beautiful natural thing, and unless clothes are required to tell the story I find them superfluous, and sometimes downright distracting to a composition.

Day 9 "Fast & Dirty Napkin Art"
JUNE 9, 2011

Weather: Cloudy, 66°
Mood: Bowlioking

Inspiration: As promised (or warned), here is some cocktail napkin art. Everybody has there thing, me, I doodle girl's faces. I was thinking of the protagonist in the book I'm reading right now - "The Host" by Stephanie Meyer. Eh, it's Bowlioke Thursday so here some fast and dirty art. Enjoy :)

Day 8 "Butterfly"
JUNE 8, 2011

Weather: Sunny, 77°
Mood: Productive

Inspiration: My 16 year old niece and I make art once a month (tomorrow) at Sanborn Gratiot Memorial Home, an assisted living home for the elderly. This piece is a sample to show the seniors what they can do with tissue paper. I won't lie, it's rather challenging to come up with projects suitable for seniors. Many struggle w/arthritis and poor eye sight, but I think the transparent, colorful nature of the tissue paper will be a good fit for our lively bunch.

Price: Original NFS, 9x13" Color Prints are $15

Day 7 "I Can Fly"
JUNE 7, 2011

Weather: Sunny, 90°
Mood: Okay, I 'spose.

Inspiration: Recently I went sky-diving for the first time and it was probably one of the most amazing experiences in my life thus far. It was liberating that I had the courage to step out a plane at 13,500 feet, and most people don't know this, but the sensation is not one of falling but that of flying! I can close my eyes and imagine it vividly. This bracelet is meant to encourage me to take a moment occasionally and remember the experience.

Day 6 "A Darkness"
JUNE 6, 2011

Weather: Sunny, 80°
Mood: Goth

Inspiration: When it comes to scary movies I'm all in. Sometimes I find gore in movies almost artistic in nature. My sisters think I'm a little odd because I have no problem watching a horror film, in the dark all alone... which is exactly how I spent my evening. This piece is a reflection the darkness of the stories I watched tonight.

Medium: Homespun Yarn on Cardboard
Price: Original NFS, 9x12" Color Prints are $15

Day 5 "Serenity"
JUNE 5, 2011

Weather: Sunny, 79°
Mood: Peaceful

Inspiration: Today's piece was inspired by serenity. For me, Sundays are a day of rest, so the style I chose is a rather leisurely one (easy). Instead of conveying an idea, my goal was instead to invoke sense of warmth and sweetness.

Medium: 12x12" Acrylic on Canvas Board
Price:

Day 4 "Sole Mates"
JUNE 4, 2011

Weather: Sunny, 72°
Mood: Romantic

Inspiration: Like most couples, occasionally my husband and I squabble, but it’s the healthy sort and there’s never a doubt in my mind that I’m married to my soul mate. Just recently it’s been a bit bumpy, so tonight, in an effort to reconnect we went out on a date. Nothing fancy, just dinner and a movie – it was really nice :) Today’s piece is a portrait of us…
as “sole” mates.

Medium: Charcoal & Pastels
Price:

like to have one done of you
and your “sole” mate, e-mail me!

Bottle Cap Belt - Jody Parmann

Day 3 "Oberon Bottle Cap Belt"
JUNE 2, 2011

Weather: Sunny, 72°
Mood: Eh, can't complain...well I could, but I don't really need to ;)

Inspiration: Today was too busy to allow myself to play in the paint, so I decided to treat you all to one of my fashion concoctions. Personally I like my belts to have an assortment of colorful caps, but the Oberon belt has been requested repeatedly and the yellow sun design is so summery it just made sense. This belt can be sized to order. If you purchase it please e-mail me.

Medium: Bottle Caps & Military-style Canvas Belt

Day 2 "Let Go"
JUNE 2, 2011

Weather: Sunny, 68°
Mood: Crabby

Inspiration: Woke up to a strange man hovering over me in bed last night and proceeded to attack him, only to realize the strange man was my husband. Needless to say the fright left me rather discombobulated today. A fun-filled night of Bowlioke at the Zebra Bar in Port Huron saved the day. Though it might not be apparent at first glance but the form in this piece is bowling!

Day 1 "Awaken"
JUNE 1, 2011

Weather: Sunny, 67°
Mood: Excited

Inspiration: One of the very first things I remember drawing that got the attention of my parents was a self portrait. I've created some rather successful pieces based on this concept over the years, so I thought an emerging face within a tree-like design was a good place to start since summer seems to finally be here and I feel a little like I'm coming out of hibernation.

Medium: 9x12" Charcoal on Watercolor Paper
Price:
